WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump threatened Tuesday morning to pull funding from any colleges that allow “illegal protests” and to even imprison or permanently send back “agitators” to the country “from which they came.”
“All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Trump’s announcement comes as anti-Israel protests continue to take over college campuses and the administration threatens to pull Columbia University’s federal funding over antisemitism concerns.
On Monday, the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. General Services Administration announced a “comprehensive review of Columbia University’s federal contracts and grants.”
The announcement cited the university’s “inaction in the face of relentless harassment of Jewish students” as the reason for the federal government’s Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism to look into more than $5 billion in federal grant commitments to make sure the university is complying with federal regulations.
Columbia University responded by saying the school is “fully committed to combatting antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, and we are resolute that calling for, promoting, or glorifying violence or terror has no place at our University.”
Trump signed an executive order in January vowing to “combat the explosion of anti-Semitism on our campuses” and deport “Hamas sympathizers.”
“To all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests, we put you on notice: come 2025, we will find you, and we will deport you,” a White House fact sheet read. “I will also quickly cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathizers on college campuses, which have been infested with radicalism like never before.”
