Jay Dean Corbitt

January 16, 1936 – November 13, 2019

Jay Dean Corbitt was born on January 16, 1936, in Elkins, Arkansas to Lester Lee and Helen Iren (Eberle) Corbitt. He lived in Arkansas as a young boy, then moved to Blackwell with his family. He attended Blackwell Public Schools as a child and worked at the local Safeway. In 1953, he joined the Marines. He married Carolyn Sue Crawford on January 27, 1954. Later that year, he was deployed to Korea. In their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.. Jay spent 22 years serving his country, stationed at Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejeune, Chula Vista, Quantico, Okinawa, Bethesda, Lubbock, and two tours in Vietnam. Between periods of military service and re-enlistment, Jay worked a short time for the Smelter and Speed King. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1976, as a 1st Sergeant. Jay & Sue returned to Blackwell to make their home and he went to work for Kay County District # 3 as the Road Foreman and retired after 20 years.

Jay loved the outdoors. After his retirement from Kay County, Jay and Sue spent lots of time at the lake. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and squirrel hunting. He could do almost anything as a wood craftsman and was always working on numerous projects. Sue would paint and complete the projects. Jay enjoyed spending time with family, attending auctions, collecting antiques and was an excellent cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Helen Corbitt, two sisters Barbara and Nancy, his wife Carolyn, daughter Sherri Grace and granddaughter Kristi Pennington.

Jay is survived by his son, Darrell and wife Becky of Baytown, Texas; son, Tim and wife Vicki of Ponca City and son-in-law, James Grace of Kaw City. Also, six grandchildren including Brandi Doty and her husband Chad of Owasso, Chad Corbitt and his wife Kelly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jonny Corbitt and his wife Lacey of Stillwater, Wendy Corbitt of Baytown, Texas, Lindsey Perkins and her husband Kris of Blackwell, and Tyler Corbitt of Ponca City. The sixteen great grandchildren include Brayden, Taegin, Ethan, Landon, Malarie, Carter, Tayler, Emma, Kaetyn, Noah, Willa, Zackary, Samuel, Annabel, Vayda , Roman, and one great-great grandson Zayden. Jay is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at the Blackwell Cemetery on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Guests are invited to stop by Lindsey’s home at 865 Saralyn Dr., Blackwell following the services to visit with family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in care of Roberts and Sons Funeral Home.
