OKLAHOMA CITY The former executive director of a company that provides community living services for vulnerable adults with disabilities faces two felony counts after a Multi-County Grand Jury investigation. The indictment was unsealed today.

Freedom Anderson, 46, worked as the executive director at Brightway Community Living. Between August 2022 and May 2024, she is accused of embezzling more than $15,000. Brightway received state aid dollars to offer various services, but the Multi-County Grand Jury found that Anderson pocketed the money for herself.

When someone embezzles funds meant to support our most vulnerable citizens, they aren’t just stealing money – they’re stealing opportunity and dignity from those who depend on these vital services,” said Attorney General Gentner Drummond. “My office will vigorously prosecute those who exploit their positions of authority to divert taxpayer dollars away from their intended purpose, especially when those dollars are meant to serve Oklahomans with disabilities.”

Since Brightway has multiple locations throughout Oklahoma and money was taken from clients from a number of locations, Anderson also faces a second count of Engaging in a Pattern of Criminal Offenses in Two or More Counties. The investigation revealed that embezzlement was committed in Oklahoma County, Tulsa County, Cleveland County, McClain County and Washington County.
