TULSA, Okla. (AP) – American Airlines says it plans to hire 165 new aviation maintenance technicians and support staff at its aircraft maintenance facility in Tulsa.
The Tulsa World reports the new workers will be primarily Federal Aviation Administration-licensed mechanics who will focus on interior modifications to Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 aircraft.
The workers are in addition to 400 new jobs announced in August that American says are needed to keep up with the maintenance base’s growing workload.
Erik Olund, managing director of base maintenance for American, says the company expects to hire half of the new positions by the end of 2019 and the remainder by Feb. 1.
More than 5,000 people are employed at American’s maintenance facility in Tulsa, which the airline says is the world’s largest commercial aircraft maintenance facility.
