NOC hosts FAFSA completion events

TONKAWA — Northern Oklahoma College’s Financial Aid Department is making it easier to complete financial aid forms for college. NOC’s Kelly Jordan has visited 10 area high schools to assist students and families with the process by hosting a FAFSA completion event.
Jordan, who has been with NOC 12 years, said the process can be overwhelming.
“Students and parents think the process is harder than it is,” she said. “The most important thing is to file the form by the deadlines. A financial aid professional at any school can then help make any changes.”
Jordan has held meetings in Ponca City, Tonkawa, Perry, Blackwell, Newkirk, Frontier, Deer Creek-Lamont, Pond Creek-Hunter, Enid, and Chisholm this fall.
She said that assistance in completing the documents doesn’t mean that students have to attend NOC.
“We are willing to help regardless where the student goes to school,” Jordan said. “Fortunately, we have helped 100 families this year get their financial aid completed.”
“It is so important that the FAFSA be completed as early as possible,” she added. “The grant monies are limited and those dollars are allocated on a first come, first served basis.”
Jordan has been visiting area schools the past three years. The program started with three schools two years ago and has grown to 10 this year.
Officials say the FAFSA filing period opened Oct. 1, and by applying early, qualified students have the opportunity to receive additional federal and state dollars to assist with college expenses.
