The Ponca City Library has received a Health Literacy Grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. The program “Staying Healthy Over the Holidays” provides over 50 activities from November through January to help with the challenges of staying calm and making healthy eating and exercise choices during the holiday season.

Activities include: discovering new health resources, learning how to make healthy holiday recipes, yoga, hula hooping, tap dancing, and many more. A “Get Fit Club” will be available to participants to play health Bingo, try new activities, and share success stories. There will be tips for goal setting, making small changes for healthy outcomes, how to de-stress, weight loss, and how to move more.

Go online at www.poncacitylibrary.com or in person to pick up schedules, and get a Bingo card. Pedometers are on the way to help set step goals, along with passes to check out a class at the RecPlex. For the outdoor lovers, the Storywalk will feature new holiday children’s books. And to try out a new destination, try YOGA at the Link.

“Staying Healthy Over the Holidays” is funded by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services and supported by local partner organizations: Friends of the Ponca City Library, OSU Extension Services, the Alzheimer’s Association, Ponca City Development Authority, Diamond Nutrition, Om Yoga, Pioneer Technology Center, and the Ponca City RecPlex.

The Ponca City Library is one of 30 libraries and literacy organizations in Oklahoma to receive this grant for Health Literacy programs. This is the 8th year of the Health Literacy Initiative through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, and the Oklahoma agency is participation in a study that will look at Health Literacy Programs in four states.
