Domain listing scam reported

A local marketing agency that specializes in web design and media services reports that several clients have been receiving “scam” letters that look like bills from a company that lists domain names in a directory.
“This was reported to me by a client. This is a common scam that sends clients a ‘bill,’ the marketing agency owner said. “If you read closely, the bill is for their domain to be listed on their website. This is obviously very misleading. Many times businesses will pay it fear their website domain may be taken down. This is a scam. Businesses should always contact their domain registrar and/website host to verify any invoice before paying.”
The agency owner  said this is the 10th letter that has been reported to her by her clients in the past two months, and she doesn’t want any business to fall prey to the scam.
If your business has received a letter like this, please check with your domain registrar and website host to verify any invoice.
The scam was reported to the Kay County Sheriff’s department as well.
