Quick starts have been friendly to the Oklahoma State soccer team so far this season.
They used another great first half performance to knock off the West Virginia Mountaineers 2-1 in Big 12 conference play.
In the 14th minute, West Virginia fouled one of the Cowgirls on the right sideline about 35 yards away from the goal and set play maestro Kim Rodriguez stepped up to the free kick and belted it towards the left post.
The ball bounced in front of the goalkeeper and Grace Yochum slid in front and distracted the Mountaineer just enough for the ball to creep inside the left post. That gave the Cowgirls a lead, but they did not take their foot off the gas pedal.
About 15 minutes later the Pokes doubled up their lead when freshman standout Olyvia Dowell used some fancy footwork to get free in the corner of the penalty area and she fired a cross past the face of goal. That’s where Yochum slid in once again and deflected the ball into the back of the net.
The second half was all about hanging on for the Pokes as West Virginia came to life and put a lot of pressure on OSU. The Mountaineers got 8 shots off and forced a whopping 6 saves from Cowgirl keeper Dani Greenlee. Of those saves, about 3 were sprawling saves that preserved the lead.
West Virginia scored with a few minutes left to make the scoreline look like a closer game than was really the case.
The Cowgirls currently sit atop the Big 12 and will await the result from Lubbock tonight when Texas Tech takes on TCU. If Tech loses or ties, OSU will be solo leaders of the conference.

Sooners Take Down Iowa State
The Oklahoma soccer team made the trip to Ames last night to take on the Iowa State Cyclones, who are winless in the conference thus far and it was a familiar face that got the win for the Sooners.
Senior Kaylee Dao scored her 13th goal of the season and that was all that was required for the Sooners to pile onto ISU. Her 29th minute goal was the only scoring of the contest that was mostly played in the middle of the field, with the teams combining for just 17 shots.
Dao’s performances continue to put her in a position that could make her the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Put it in the win column!
