Alieda May Key
July 28, 1952 – October 9, 2019
Alieda May Key, age 67, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly on October 9, 2019
A memorial ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 21, 2019 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Ponca City with Pastor Michael Taylor officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Alieda was born on July 28, 1952 to Linwood E. Franklin, Jr., and Ruther Alieda Potter Franklin in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Alieda lived in North Kingstown until she was about 5 years old. At that time, her family moved to Tucson, Arizona. Alieda attended high school there and graduated in 1970. One fateful evening, while she and some friends were out on the town, she caught the eye of a young airman who was stationed at the local Air Force Base. Lannie Ron Key asked her to marry him and they were married on February 14, 1975. Originally, Alieda started her career as a beautician and then took classes earning her an associate’s degree in retail fashion marketing. Alieda put that degree to good use in her life as a women’s fashion retail associate with her last job as an assistant store manager for Catherine’s Plus Size Fashions. Her keen eye for style was a blessing to whomever came into the stores where she worked as she would find great styles for the ladies she served. In 2013, Alieda and Lannie purchased a home in Ponca City before moving here to retire in 2014. People gave Alieda much joy in life. She loved working with others and saw the good in them. Wherever she was, if there was a way to help, Alieda wanted to get involved. Her desire to be involved was most evident at church. As a faithful member of First Baptist Church, she taught the 4th grade children in Sunday school. The community bible study was another place Alieda shared her faith. As well, she was a board member of the Ponca City Newcomers Association and Happy Hearts with the Oklahoma Agriculture Dept. In her personal time, Alieda enjoyed traveling to the beaches of home in Rhode Island, reading classic, mystery and Christian novels as well as collecting Teddy Bears and lighthouses. But above all, Alieda’s Christian faith was her strength in life. The thoughts and meditations Alieda shared revolved around her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Alieda will be dearly missed by those for whom she so deeply cared.
Survivors include her beloved husband Lannie of the home, sons: Jeffrey Key of Ponca City, Lannie Key, Jr. of Antelope, CA; brother: David Franklin and wife April of Independence, KS, brother and sister in law: Christopher & Gaye Young of Ponca City, nephews: George Cook, Brian Young, Kevin Young; nieces Terry (Cook) Burklow, Sarah Savannah Franklin, and Susan (Franklin) Koerich.
Alieda was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Marie Napier, Christine Maders, and Margie Beckham as well as her niece Denise Maders.
