Prescription drug take back day

Ponca City Now - April 22, 2014 4:36 pm

The Ponca City Police Department is participating in the National Prescription Drug Take Back program.

The department said the collection is this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Police Command vehicle, which will be parked in front of City Hall.

Patrol Capitan, Earl Watkins along with several volunteers will be collecting unwanted, unused prescription medicine.

Items collected will be properly disposed of.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back program is a national Drug Enforcement Agency program.

The goal aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal, while educating the general public about the potential abuse of these medications.

Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply.

Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

This take back program is the best way to dispose of old drugs.

Unused or expired medications are a public safety issue leading to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse.
