Visitation resumes at Oklahoma prisons following fights

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Visitation will resume at 14 Oklahoma minimum security prisons that were among more than two dozen prisons locked down following recent fights that injured three dozen inmates and left one inmate dead.
State Department of Corrections spokesman Matt Elliott said that visitation will resume at many minimum security facilities and at community corrections centers.
The state’s 24 prisons, as well as 3 private prisons, were locked down following fights last month at prisons in Vinita, Hominy, Sayre, Fort Supply, Lawton, and Stringtown. Inmate Chad Burns, 27, was killed in the fighting that injured 36 other inmates and some prison staff, though no staff members were hospitalized.
The lock downs were lifted on September 24th at minimum- and medium-security units, but visitation remained cancelled.
Those wishing to visit an inmate should contact the prison facility.
