CRESCENT, Oklahoma –
Ten earthquakes shook up residents near the Crescent and Choctaw areas overnight Saturday.
The first two earthquakes in this series weighed in at a 2.7 and 2.6 magnitudes on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located around Choctaw, at depths between three and five miles.
Between 12:37 and 3:06 a.m., seven quakes rattled residents north of the Crescent area. The magnitudes ranged from 2.8 to 4.3, and the depths were recorded about one to three miles deep.
The two strongest earthquakes, both 4.3 magnitudes and located 14 miles north of Crescent, were reported at 12:51 and 2:42 a.m. Sunday.
The last quake reported was a 2.7 magnitude tremor, 10 miles east of Hennessey, at a depth of just over three miles deep.
Several residents contacted News 9 to report the shaking. No major damage or injuries have been reported at this time.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
Social media posts indicate the quake was felt here in Ponca City.
