OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has visited a grove of trees donated by Iowans to the victims of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Branstad joined Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin to visit the site Friday. Fallin was lieutenant governor when the grove was planted and invited Branstad – who is in Oklahoma City for a National Governor’s Association conference – to visit the memorial.
The trip was the first by Branstad to the site since he took part in a dedication ceremony for the grove in November 1995.
The Iowa State Horticulture Society planted linden trees representing adults killed in the bombing and crabapple trees for each child who died.
The April 19th, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City killed 168 people, including 19 children.
