The Kay County District 1 Commissioners Office confirmed Thursday morning that Lake Road reopened today with temporary repairs in place.

The road has been repaired with rock in the area west of Kygar Road for a few weeks before repaving takes place.

The road washed out in the 3200 block of Lake Road May 24 during flooding in the area. Webb’s Bar, adjacent to the wash-out area, also collapsed as a result.

Kay County Commissioner Jack Godberson said a 100-foot section of the road was rebuilt with gravel. He said it will remain graveled for a month or so while the county goes through the bidding process for an asphalt repair.

Once a contract is awarded, he said, the road will be closed again for two or three days for asphalting and then will reopen permanently.

“The City of Ponca City came out and swept the road this morning,” Godberson said. “The city has been excellent. They need  that road to be open, too.  That was our number 1 priority.”

Godberson also said Pecan Road south of Lake Road will be closed for a couple of months.

“There are a lot of cars that use Pecan, but nothing like Lake Road,” he said.

He said a 400-foot section of Pecan will have to be repaired.

“One area washed out, and other places are undermined,” Godberson said. He said Pecan was built as a 12-inch thick asphalt road because of heavy truck traffic in the area. Repairs there will take longer.
