Muriel L. Sherman

January 22, 1930 – May 27, 2019

Muriel L. Sherman, beloved mother, was called home by her Lord and Savior May 27, with her loving family by her side. She was 89 years of age. Muriel was born January 22, 1930, in Pascagoula, MS to Joseph F. Pittinger and Sharlie A. Trehern Pittinger.

There will be two Celebration of Life Services. The first will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at CrossPoint Baptist Church, Coweta, OK with Pastor Brett Wheeler officiating. Visitation will be at CrossPoint from 12:30 to 1:30. The second service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019 at Sunset Baptist Church Ponca City, OK with Pastor Matt Brown officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel. Muriel grew up in Mississippi, graduating from Hinds High School in 1948 and from Hinds Junior College in 1950 with a Business Degree. She met the love of her life George E. Sherman while singing in the Billy Graham Crusade choir and they were married December 22, 1952 in Jackson, Mississippi. They made their home in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma due to the fact George went to Baylor University, New Orleans Theological Seminary and then served as Minister of Music at several different Churches. Muriel was working as an insurance secretary. They finally came to Ponca City in 1967 and she went to work for Conoco retiring as executive secretary in 1992 with 25 years of service. She was also a member of the Desk & Derrick Officers. Muriel was very active in the Sunset Baptist Church teaching Sunday School, leading Girls in Action, the Women’s Missionary Union, and Singing in the Choir.

She is survived by her Children; Linda Ezell and husband Phillip of Porter, OK, George Sherman Jr of Ponca City, OK, Peggy Brown and husband Calvin of Coweta, OK, Glen Sherman of Campbell, TX and Gary Sherman and wife Bianca of Fate, TX. Also surviving are 1 brother; Jimmy Pittinger of Madison, MS, 1 sister; Ann Hyde of Monticello, MS, Brother in law James Reames of Leland, MS, Sister in law Lynda Gallagher of Ocean Springs, MS, Aunt Ethel Louise Trehern, of Pascagoula, MS. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Zachary Inman, Sarah Inman, Phyllis Ezell, Stacy Sherman, Jennifer Middleton and husband Alan, Amber Louks and husband David, Cameron Brown and wife Emily, Calvin Brown and fiancé Mary, Rayna Sherman, Paul Bohning, Stephanie Rallo and husband Mike, Khira Bass and husband Justin, Heather Vincent and husband Jody and Lexi Sherman. 19 Great Grandchildren: Olivia Inman, Niki Baucom, Savannah Louks, Charlotte Brown, Elijah Brown, Leyla Rallo, Stryker Rallo, Cohyn Rallo, Knoxtyn Rallo, Domynic Rallo, Gyavana Rallo, Reagan Bass, Payton Manning, Alissa Bass, Sawyer Vincent, Rhys Vincent, Abigail Vincent, Cade Vincent, Alexis Vincent. 1 Great Great Grandson: Ryker Myers, and several nieces and nephews.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Husband George of 46 years. 2 sisters: Maxine Carter and Mary Jo Reames, 1 brother; Charles Pittinger.
