Kay County is in the top dozen counties statewide in the percent of kindergarten students who have received their required immunizations for school attendance, according to an investigative journalism piece written by Oklahoma Watch.

The article reports Kay County’s kindergarten students surveyed in the 2017-18 school year had a compliance rate of 95 percent, with 1.4 percent having an exemption on medical, religious or personal grounds.

Oklahoma requires kindergarteners to be immunized against 10 diseases unless parents choose an exemption on medical, religious or personal grounds.

In Oklahoma’s 2017-18 kindergarten immunization survey, an estimated 89.9% of kindergarteners with immunization records were up to date for all required vaccines. The rate of exemptions was 2.2%, matching the national median.
