Po-Hi Band performing Spring Concert May 14

The Po-Hi Band will hold its Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 14, at the Ponca City Public Schools Concert Hall.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. There is no charge, and the community is invited to hear this award-winning band.

Directors for the Concert Band are Andrew Orr and Keith Crocker. Director of the Symphonic Band is David Christy.

Orr and Crocker will be guest conducting selections with the Symphonic Band, and Dr. Doug Henderson from Oklahoma State University will be the special guest conductor on “Dusk.”

The High School Concert Band will perform “Celebration Overture” by James Swearingen; “Tango Mariana” by Joseph Compello; “Nocturnal Dances” by Robert W. Smith; and “Highlights from ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’” arranged by Michael Brown.

Following the Concert Band, the Symphonic Band will perform “The Minnesota March” by John Philip Sousa; “Overture to ‘Candide’” by Leonard Bernstein; “Bohemian Rhapsody” arranged by Paul Murtha; “Dusk” by Steven Bryant; and “Selections From “The Greatest Showman” arranged by Paul Murtha.

Douglas Henderson is the Associate Director of Bands, Director of the Cowboy Marching Band, and Director of Athletic Bands at Oklahoma State University.

Under his leadership, the Cowboy Marching Band has grown to record numbers and performed innovative halftime shows that have garnered tremendous support from OSU fans, students, alumni, and administrators. In addition to his duties with the marching band, Dr. Henderson conducts the Symphonic Band, teaches courses in music education, oversees all instrumental music education student teachers, and serves as the adviser for undergraduate instrumental music education majors.
