UnWINEd is offering many ways to unwind this week.
The first opportunity is tonight, they’re hosting a Mardi Gras dinner.
Melody Young, UnWINEd owner said they will serve Jambalaya, beans and rice, a voodoo beer and hurricanes.
She said people have asked for a place to celebrate Mardi Gras.
“People just don’t really do that around here," Young said. "A friend of mine gave me the idea that maybe we should. I know in the past we haven’t and people kind of came in and asked about it, and I just think people kind of want a reason to get out and celebrate.”
They will begin serving this specialty dinner at 6 and will continue to serve until 9.
If you have kids who can’t go into the bar call UnWINEd and they will bring the food out to you.
On top of the Mardi Gras dinner, UnWINEd will have one of its cook-offs this weekend.
This Saturday people will be cooking up their best chicken noodle soup and hot rolls.
Young says testing kits are $10 and will benefit the local Young Life organization.
Young came up with using her bar to raise money when she hosted her first adult prom.
She said people kept calling asking how much it cost, yet it was free.
“I thought if people are willing to pay the money, then why don’t we make it go toward a cause," Young said. "So, for each event I do down here whether it’s a prom or starting these cook-offs people pay $10. They get tons of food to eat and then all that money can go to help somebody else out, so you know why not. I think everybody wants to give, but they can’t always give a large amount so they give a little amount together makes a bigger amount to give to someone, and can help these charities out or individuals that need help.”
Next month there will be a deviled eggs and ham cook-off benefiting the March of Dimes.
Also, there will be live music again this Friday and Saturday.
