SULPHUR, Okla. (AP) – Authorities say an Oklahoma woman was fatally shot by her father-in-law after arriving in a Walmart parking lot to pick her up children from her estranged husband.

Alan Chaney of Ardmore was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Jaclyn Chaney in Sulphur, about 85 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.

Court records do not list an attorney to speak on behalf of Chaney, who remains jailed.

Sulphur City Manager Andy Freeman says Jaclyn Chaney was shot Sunday afternoon after arriving to pick up her 5- and 6-year-old children from her estranged husband.

Freeman says the children were inside the store with their father at the time.

Court records show Jaclyn Chaney and her husband were divorcing and both were seeking custody of the children.
