Okla. aging agency to award transportation grants

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma Department of Human Services plans to award almost $2.4 million in federal funds for public transportation services for the elderly and people with disabilities.

Capital assistance grants from the Federal Transit Administration will be awarded to private, nonprofit groups for vehicles for specialized public transportation services. Up to $1.3 million is designated for rural projects, $761,000 for large urban projects in the Oklahoma City area and $291,000 for small urban projects in Lawton and Norman.

Chosen applicants must provide 15 percent in matching funds for vehicles that meet Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, or 20 percent in matching funds for non-ADA equipped vehicles.

Grant applications are accepted throughout the year. Applications not received in time for the current funding cycle will be carried over until the next cycle.
