Father, son dead of gunshot wounds in home near Pawhuska

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office has released this information about the deaths of two men at a home near Pawhuska. During the course of the investigation, several sources of conflicting information have issued reports. This one from the Osage County Sheriff’s Office was posted shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a domestic disturbance with one person being shot at a residence located off CR 4920 in Pawhuska.

While units were responding the Sheriff’s Office received a second 911 call reporting that a second person had been shot.

Upon arrival, it was reported that Travis Kirchner, 45, and his son Ty Kirchner, 23, had gotten into a verbal altercation and during the incident Ty Kirchner had shot Travis Kirchner.

After the first incident there was a second incident involving Ty Kirchner and another family member. During that altercation Ty Kirchner was shot, allegedly in self defense.

Ty Kirchner and Travis Kirchner were pronounced dead at the scene. We were assisted by several agencies during the incident including but not limited to The Osage Nation Police Department, The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident is still under investigation and will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
