John G. Krider
November 26, 1936 – March 22, 2019
John Gordon Krider, longtime resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the age of 82. John was born in Ponca City on November 26, 1936, to Gordon and Oval (Butler) Krider.
He attended Ponca City Public Schools and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1954. John attended Oklahoma State University. His career started at the Coca Cola Bottling Company. John went on to manage the Zales Jewelry Store in Ponca City for many years. After Zales he worked at Security Bank and Frontier Federal Savings and Loan/Heartland Federal until he left the banking industry to work for Trout Funeral Home. He remained an employee of Trout up until his death.
John met his beloved Peggy in the fall of 1964 and they began a 53 year courtship. John and Peggy were married in Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee on June 25, 1966. They had two children, John (Andy) in 1970 and Laura in 1971.
John was a member of the Ponca City Noon Lions Club where he received the Lifetime Membership Award in 2011. He was a member of the Ponca City Tippers Club, Kay County Excise and Equalization Board, docent at the Marland Mansion, and on the Po-Hi Alumni Hall of Fame Committee. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was very active in his community. John and Peggy were long time members of Wauhillau Outing Club where they spent many summers and developed lifelong friends. John belonged to a domino group that met weekly for over 16 years. John loved to spend his time with his family, doing crosswords, and watching any Oklahoma State Sporting Event.
John is survived by his son Andy and wife, Traci, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, daughter Laura and husband, Jeff Martin, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two grandchildren, Devin and Hannah Martin, brother-in-law, Andy Anderson, and wife, Marty, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved wife, Peggy Krider, parents, Gordon and Oval Krider, and sister, Patricia Chanslor.
Casket Bearers will be Andy Anderson, Eric Anderson, Evan Anderson, Jeff Martin, Wes Schneider, and Tony Waggerman. Honorary Casket Bearers will be David Chanslor, Brice and Grace Chism, Phil and Carol Howe, Dick and Arleen Jacobson, Jim Kelly, Joyce Shreffler, and the members of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Memorial Fund or the Ponca City Noon Lions Club.
A funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 28th at 10:00 a.m. Following the funeral John will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 8 am to 8 pm Tuesday and Wednesday. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
