With Spring comes more motorcycles — watch out!

Ponca City Now - March 22, 2019 5:02 pm

Spring is officially here and we are starting to get nice weather. As a result, there will be more people enjoying the weather on their motorcycles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are 28 times more likely than people in passenger cars to die in a traffic collision.

“If you are the operator of a motorcycle, please practice defensive driving techniques,” Patrol Lieutenant Jason Filtz said. “Be aware of your surroundings and understand that drivers of motor vehicles may not see you, so be prepared for the unknown.”

Lieutenant Filtz also adds “We also encourage those that operate motor vehicles to show extra caution around motorcycles on the roadway. Understand that it is more difficult to judge the speed of an oncoming motorcycle than it can be a car. Routinely misjudging their speed and turning in front of an oncoming motorcycle can have fatal consequences.”
