Kay County elections

Ponca City Now - February 10, 2014 12:48 pm

Registered voters should make their way to polling places sometime today.

There is a Ponca City municipal election, and Blackwell, Newkirk and Shilder school district elections.

Cheryl Howard, Kay County Election Board secretary said this is an important election.

“It’s just really important because they are the ones who make the decisions on how the school districts operate and run," Howard said. "For the Ponca City Commission they make the decisions on all the Ponca City resolutions, and they run the city of Ponca City. It’s just real important to get down and vote for your candidate.”

You must be registered in the school district to vote in the school district elections.

And you have to live within Ponca City city limits to vote in the city election.

Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Howard said Blackwell school district has chosen to close rural precincts.

“ If someone doesn’t know where they need to go vote they can call us at the Election Board at 580-362-2130," Howard said. "We can look their registration up and tell them what precinct they are registered in.”

Results will be available right here around 8 p.m. tonight.
