Arkansas City Police to conduct SAFE enforcement campaign

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.  — The Arkansas City Police Department will conduct a two-week Seatbelts Are For Everyone (SAFE) traffic enforcement campaign starting Monday, Feb. 25.

This campaign will focus primarily on the area around Arkansas City High School, 1200 W. Radio Lane, with an emphasis on increasing seat belt usage and reducing speeding and distracted driving.

Beginning Monday and continuing through March 8, ACPD will join other law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma with increased enforcement near high schools to raise awareness of roadway safety. Officers will issue citations to drivers who speed, text while driving or do not buckle up.

“This period is an excellent time for parents and guardians to remind teens that driving is a privilege, and to encourage them to learn about the importance of driving safely,” said Police Chief Dan Ward.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens aged 15 to 18 years old in the United States — more than any other types of injury, disease or violence.

“Please slow down, put the phone away or turn it off while driving, and always buckle up,” Ward said.
