Kay County Detention Center is going to new lengths to protect women in the community.
They are hosting a My Body…My Life… workshop.
Sergeant Kevin Main, class instructor said it teaches women how to protect themselves and how to recognize the signs of a bad relationship.
Women aged 13 to 93 are welcome.
Girls under 18 have to turn in a permission slip.
“They can pick up applications at the Kay County Detention Center, they can call us here at 580-362-3393 and we will get them one or they can pick up the applications at Team Radio,” Main said.
Class is free, but space is limited to 30 women
To RSVP call Kevin Main at 580-362-3393 or email him at [email protected] .
The class will be Feb. 22 from 9 to 5 at the American Legion in Ponca City.
Main tells us why this education is especially important in Oklahoma.
“Currently Oklahoma is ranked no. 4 in the nation in child abduction, and one out three women by the age of 18 are subject to some kind of sexual abuse," Main said. "We are trying to get the word out for women to be able to recognize this and prevent this.”
Newkirk eighth graders just completed the class.
Also, these workshops have been given to nearly 1,000 women in the Norman area.
Mothers are encouraged to attend with daughters.
