Okla. Legislature to convene 2014 regular session

Ponca City Now - February 3, 2014 6:25 am

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma Legislature is preparing to convene the 2014 legislative session.

The state House and Senate are scheduled to convene at noon Monday and Gov. Mary Fallin will deliver her State of the State address a short time later to outline her goals for the session.

Lawmakers will have about $6.96 billion in revenue to appropriate to state agencies and programs this year. That’s about $170 million less than they appropriated to state programs last year.

In spite of the revenue shortfall, Fallin has said she will outline plans for an income tax cut during her State of the State speech. An agreement reached last year to cut the rate from 5.25 percent to 5 percent was thrown out by Oklahoma Supreme Court.

Lawmakers must adjourn by May 30.
