Ponca City Now - December 6, 2018 12:26 pm

Advisory: A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Kay County until Sunday at noon.

From the National Weather Service in Norman, a WINTER STORM WARNING remains in effect from Friday morning through Saturday evening.

Heavy mixed precipitation is possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with ice accumulations up to two
tenths of an inch are possible.

The heavier snow accumulations will mainly be across portions of western and central Oklahoma. The heavier ice
accumulations are expected to extend from parts of southwest Oklahoma and western north Texas into central Oklahoma.

The main effects of this storm will arrive Friday evening, and continue through Saturday. Some freezing drizzle
may occur during the day on Friday over parts of western and central Oklahoma.

Power outages and tree damage could be possible in some areas due to ice. Road conditions will vary across Oklahoma and western north Texas, depending on ground temperatures and the rate of accumulation of snow and ice. Ice may accumulate on bridges and overpasses, even where main roads do not freeze.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
