Kaw Lake provides rare opportunity

Kaw City is providing a rare opportunity to hopefully see bald eagles.
Kathy Tippin with the Kaw Lake association said they’ve had more than 100 eagle sightings in one year before.
Eagles have already been making appearances since Christmas.
Kaw Lake is providing multiple avenues for sighting tours.
" We put people on buses and we drive you to the location and you just get off," Tippin said. "We point out to you, so bring your binoculars, we will have a few spotting scopes."
The bus tours start Saturday morning at 7:30, 10 and than 1:30 that afternoon.
These tours depart from Kaw City Community Center and Kaw Nation Learning Center.
There are horseback tours, as well.
It’s $10 for a horse rig and you must bring your own horse.
Riders and horses will meet at Sarge Creek campground for this tour.
This tour starts at 10 a.m. and they ask you bring your own sack lunch.
Tippin said presentations will be held at Kaw City Community Center, Kaw Nation learning center and the Kaw City school.
"These include everything from PowerPoint presentations about the eagles and their nesting habits, kind of a little bit of background on bald eagles, how they are no longer on the endangered species list, those type of things," Tippins said.
There are also programs featuring falcons and hawks.
This event is always the third Saturday in January.
The bus tour and classes are free, but they encourage donations to help with the cost.
