A Ponca City resident was injured early Monday morning in an accident on State Highway 11 near U Street, located 4 miles north and 2 miles west of Ponca City in Kay County.

The accident occurred about 5:21 a.m., according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a 2013 Top Hat 14-foot bumper pull trailer, was driven by Garrett Lee Sumpter, 27, of Ponca City, according to Troopers. He was not injured.

Misty Lynn Linch, 39, of Ponca City, was driving a 2016 Toyota Scion. She was transported by AirEvac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in serious condition with head and neck injuries.

Sumpter was eastbound on SH11 and Linch was westbound on SH11.  Sumpter departed the roadway to the  right for unknown reasons, then overcorrected, re-entered the roadway, causing the trailer to go into a broad slide into the westbound lane. It was struck by Linch’s vehicle.

Linch was pinned in her vehicle for an unknown period of time before she was extracted by emergency workers using the jaws of life.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Aaron Crompton of the Kay County detachment.  He was assisted by the Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Kaw Nation Police Department, Ponca City Fire and EMS, Blackwell Fire and EMS, Kildaire Fire Department, Newkirk Fire and EMS, and AirEvac.
