The Ponca Playhouse announced a young artist’s competition for any student ages 12 to 20 who lives or goes to school in Kay County in April 2018.  The art competition was to showcase young artists for the Playhouse’s 60th Season.

The two shows picked for the artists to use as inspiration for their artwork were “Witness for the Prosecution” by Agatha Christie and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare.

Directors Morgan Guinn, “WItness for the Prosecution,” and Robert Keltch, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” gave presentations during the summer months at the Playhouse and at Arts Adventure Camp at NOC.  Over 100 students attended the presentations, though only a few submissions were given to the Playhouse.

“This is something the Playhouse would like to continue next season and expand the art competition to adults as well as young artists from the area,” said Chad Anderson, Playhouse Board Chair. “Community theatre productions rely on the visual art to market, build excitement and encourage audiences into the theatre.”

The Playhouse board congratulates Jocelyn Kuhlmann for her drawing submissions for the two plays.  Her art for “Witness for the Prosecution” will be showcased on the tickets and program.  Performance dates are Nov. 9-11 and 17-19 and tickets are available online at www.poncaplayhouse.com.  Kuhlmann’s art for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be displayed on the show posters and other promotional materials.  Auditions for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” are Nov. 12, 13, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. at the Playhouse, 301 South First Street.

Shows for the 61st Season will be available for art submission in January 2019.  For more information, follow the Ponca Playhouse on Facebook or go to the website, www.poncaplayhouse.com.
