No threat found at Ponca City Schools, superintendent says

The resurrection of an Instagram post from June of 2017 had rumors flying Wednesday morning about whether Ponca City Public Schools were on lockdown today.

Superintendent Shelley Arrott said the schools have not been on full lockdown, although police were called to investigate and determined there was no threat at any of the schools.

“We upped our game because of the old Instagram message, but we did not go on full emergency lockdown where we were hiding kids,” Arrott said. “We were extra vigilant to make sure doors were locked. All doors are locked routinely at all schools, except the front door. Classroom doors are locked and that is standard protocol at all times.”

Because of numerous text messages being sent by students, Arrott said, a lot of parents of high school students came to the high school to get their kids.

“It kind of compounded the rumor, but there was no threat to students,” she said.
