Jack V. Norris
July 17, 1936 – October 12, 2018
Jack V. Norris, long time resident of Ponca City, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2018 at his home with family present.
Jack was born on July 17, 1936 in Ponca City to Charles V. and Louella Hargraves Norris. Jack attended Ponca City schools and graduated in 1954 from Ponca City High School. Jack married Joyce Allene Brock on September 11, 1954. Soon after, Jack went to Illinois to learn the machinist trade while working for Nickles Machine Shop. After leaving Nickles, he went to work at his father’s auto repair shop, Norris Motor Company. Then he went to bear alignment school and became a front end alignment specialist. He took over Norris Motor Company after his father’s retirement.
Over the years, Jack was one of the founders of Kids Incorporated, softball commissioner and coach, baseball commissioner and coach, Ambucs member, Hudson club member, a member of the Norris Motor racing team, a member of Gemmill racing team, and donated his time to Grand National Motor Cross in Ponca City. He also enjoyed skiing, boating, motorcycling, bowling, camping, hunting trips, fishing trips, woodworking, attending auto swap meets, classic car shows, watching Nascar races and college football, watching his grandkids play sports, and attending his Sunday School class at Sunset Baptist. One of his many favorite things was making homemade ice cream and sharing it with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Charlene Barnes, and his great-grandchild Taylor McCullough.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, son Van and wife Annette of Ponca City, son, Tracey of Ponca City, and daughter, Lyndi Wilson and husband Jeff of Winfield, Kansas as well as eight grandchildren, J.D, April, Heather, Nina, Courtney, Amber, Dustin, and Sabrina. He has twenty great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A funeral ceremony for Jack will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 2:30pm at the Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City. Following the ceremony he will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends and loved ones may pay their respects on Monday, October 15, 2018 until 8:00 pm. A family visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 700 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Casketbearers will be: Trey Rey, Bobby McCullough, Harland McClaskey, Zandier Ashley, Troy Gemmill, and Brendon Gemmill.
Honorary Casketbearers will be: George Stuever, Fred Stolhand, Danny Alexander, Van Gemmill, Pat Bunney, Bill Correll, Vince Crowley, Mike Norris, and Chuck Barnes.
