A fatal accident that claimed the life of 24-year-old Niko K. Rodrigues was reported at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday to the 911 Communications Center of the Ponca City Police Department.

The caller indicated a head-on collision had taken place near the intersection of South 14th Street and Edwards Avenue, south of South Avenue. Police and ambulance personnel responded.

A Chevrolet Cruz driven by Rodrigues, who was traveling north, crossed the center line. A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Amber D. Lara, 29, of Ponca City was southbound behind another vehicle. The other vehicle veered to the right to avoid colliding with Rodrigues. His vehicle then collided with the Tahoe.

Lara and her two children were transported to AllianceHealth Ponca City with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the children was hospitalized overnight for observation.
