Latest Road Conditions From ODOT

Road Conditions Update 1-9-14 – as of 5 a.m.

Light drizzle and fog are causing decreased visibility in north-central Oklahoma from the Kansas border south to Oklahoma City. Highway crews are continuing to monitor this situation very closely. With chances of freezing fog, commuters should use extreme caution when traveling this morning, especially on bridges and overpasses. Conditions can quickly worsen, and drivers are urged to be alert to possible "black ice" conditions.

Wet roads and isolated slick spots are reported on highways in northeastern and southeastern Oklahoma. Crews throughout the eastern half of the state continue to monitor conditions closely and treat roadways and bridges with salt and sand as needed.
During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists need to:
· Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
· Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
· Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
