Roger L. Bakewell passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS after fighting a lengthy illness.

He was born on October 27, 1948 in Monark, AR to T.O. and Nelda Bakewell. He was raised in Quapaw, OK, Kaw City, OK, and Ponca City, OK. Roger left high school early to join the National Guard at age 17. He then transferred to the Navy. He served four years and three months on air craft carriers, including a tour to war in Vietnam, and a cruise around the world. After his honorable discharge, he worked various jobs including over ten years at ASC before retirement. He married his sweetheart, Roxanne Pelts, on February 14, 2014 and they lived in Ponca City until his death.

Roger is survived by his wife, Roxanne, brother, Jerry Bakewell and wife Teresa, sister, Mayetta Fowler, step-son, Hugh Pelts and wife Cindy, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; John, Lloyd, and Nolan, and two sisters; Cheryl and Peggy.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Trout Funeral Home on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 9am-8pm and Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 1-8pm. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Howard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Longwood Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Kevin Tinklenberg, Billy Smith, Brady Dinger, Jay Bakewell, Tyler Smith, and Sam Tinklenberg.

The family will be at 1106 S. 7th after the funeral on Monday.
