Deonna Kay Hicks

April 1, 1942 – September 17, 2018

Deonna Kay “Dee” Hicks, age 76, resident of Marland, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, September 20 from 4-8pm and Friday, September 21 from 8am-8pm with the family present to greet friends from 6-8pm on Friday. A funeral ceremony to gratefully remember Dee’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Sunset Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Click and Linda Countryman officiating. Following the ceremony, Dee will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Dan at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Casket bearers will be her grandsons Ethan Parrish, Dusten Hicks, Jacob Hicks, Cameron Evans, Brandon Evans, Chris Odom & Jesse LeClair. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Deonna was born on April 1, 1942 to Ancil Doyle Wyatt and Rachel Imo Howder Wyatt in Mount Carmel, IL. Dee was raised in Mount Carmel, IL, graduating there with the class of 1960. While in high school, she met a young man in her home room class. He mouthed “hello”, and she blushed. Dan bought her first steak and put her on a pedestal and the rest was history. They were married on February 23, 1960 in Mt. Carmel before they graduated. After high school, she moved with him to Tennessee, then Arizona, Indiana, and in 1979, they settled in the Ponca City area with three children in tow. Once they settled in Ponca City, Dee began selling Home Interiors, often with a western theme, making friends all over the county. Her love of animals was legendary, as there were always strays and other critters she was nursing to health and providing a nurturing home. As well, Dee and Dan were fans of trail riding. Her little frame handled a mean old massive horse better than many men who thought they could train that horse. NASCAR brought much joy to Dee. While attending numerous races all over the country, she attended all but a few race tracks and would root heartily for her beloved Kyle Busch. She tailgated at the Daytona 500 with the same group of friends that came from Canada, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Indiana for over 15 years. There was only one bloody mary recipe as far as they were concerned, and it was Dee’s. Dee embraced golfing and bowling, even though she may have lacked abilities to be skilled at either; she had fun. Above all, Dee was a kind loving woman, quick to make too much food for those she loved, and accepting all those who acted like they were family. Many people not related by blood to Dee called her Grammy and she loved them like a grandmother. Her pleasant outlook was contagious and confounding to others. It was hard to figure how someone could always be in such a good mood, but that was Dee.

Survivors include her children: Noni Parrish and husband Bryan of Tonkawa, Scott Hicks and wife Kay of Ponca City, Lynn Evans and husband Walter of Marland, OK, sister Linda Lange of Tonkawa, grandchildren: Sara Dean of Oklahoma City, Ethan Parrish and wife Andi of Mannford, OK, Dusten Hicks of Ponca City, Maritta Bergman and wife Shantel of Blackwell, Myranda Odom and husband Chris of Poplar Bluff, MO, Jacob Hicks and fiancée Meghan Kelly of Ponca City, Magean Orndoff of Blackwell, Brandon Evans and wife Cassie of Ponca City, Cameron Evans of Stillwater, Maddi Evans of Stillwater, and 13 great grandchildren.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dan, granddaughter Missy Parrish, and brother Keith Wyatt.
