Ponca City renews building contract

Ponca City Now - January 2, 2014 6:51 am

Development in Ponca City was the highest it had been in 13 years in 2013.

Chris Henderson, development services director said the housing improvement program deserves most of the credit.

“That’s a program where by PCUA, which is our utility authority gives rebates to builders who construct new homes," Henderson said. "At the end of the transaction, based on the value of the home the PCUA will give the builder a rebate up to $30,000.

The program began in 2013.

It has given the local builders enough confidence to get loans and build homes.

Henderson said the community values this program.

"We originally adopted it in May of 2013 and just this month PCUA voted to put cash back into the program again, and it will start officially Jan. 1," Henderson said.

2014 will be the first full year for the program to run.

Henderson said new residential construction is the best indicator of economic health.

Ponca City issued 12 single family permits in 2013, which is the same amount it had for the past four years.
