Five involved in accident on I-35

Five people from the Oklahoma City area were injured in a collision about 11:30 a.m. Monday on northbound  Interstate 35, 5.4 miles south and 1.5 miles west of Tonkawa in Kay County.

Gary Neill Schomp, 70, of Oklahoma City was driving a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan northbound on I-35. The vehicle departed the roadway left for approximately 177 feet and struck a culvert, went airborne for approximately 30 feet, struck the ground, continued through the grass median and came to rest.

Schomp was transported by ambulance to Blackwell Hospital then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

Passenger  James E. Peterson,  78, of Oklahoma City, was not injured.

Passenger Delbert Ray Wilburn, 83, of Oklahoma City, refused treatment on the scene, but was later transported to Blackwell Hospital, treated and released.

Passenger Dorothy E. Turner, 79, of Bethany, was transported by ambulance to Blackwell Hospital then transferred to Integris Baptist in Oklahoma City in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

Passenger Donald Wayne Willoughby, 76, of Oklahoma City, was transported by ambulance to Blackwell Hospital then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.
