Labor Commissioner candidate to speak at the Kay County Democratic Party meeting

The Kay County Democratic Party will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the Seminar Room at the Pioneer Technology Center at 2101 North Ash Street in Ponca City.

Fred Dorrell will be the guest speaker. Dorrell is running for the State Commissioner of Labor in the General Election on Nov. 6.

Dorrell spent 34 years working for the Ford Motor Company in the Tulsa Glass Plant and was ultimately appointed by the National Ford Department to be UAW Benefits Representative. Prior to that appointment, he was elected President/Chair of the UAW Local 1895. For the past six years, he has been a Human Resources labor specialist for Spirit AeroSystems in Tulsa. He has also spent the past 21 years, as an adjunct professor of Business and Human Resources classes at Tulsa Community College.

“My desire is to serve the state I love and all citizens, no matter your party,” Dorrell said. “I will work to invoke the core values of collaboration, inspiration and transparency, which are critical to serve the people of Oklahoma.”

The runoff elections are on Aug. 28. The Democrat Ballot in Kay County will have a runoff between Ashley McCray and Blake Cummings for Commission.  Early voting will be Thursday, Aug. 23, from 8 a.m.  to 6 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 24, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 25, 8 a.m.  to 2 p.m. Voters who are registered Independent are allowed to vote in the Democratic runoff election.
