Barbara L. Miller
July 24, 1938 – August 10, 2018
Barbara Leona Mock joined her husband, Charles Miller, in Glory on August 9, 2018.
Barbara was born in Oklahoma City on July 24, 1938 to Earl and Margaret Mock. She graduated from Ponca City High School where she worked hard and accomplished her dream of being head cheerleader. She attended college at OU, earning her bachelors in Education. Her first teaching jobs were in Midwest City, Oklahoma, where she taught first grade, and Fort Rucker, AL, where she taught post elementary school. She then taught at Trout Elementary, as well as at Union Elementary in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Barbara married the love of her life, Charles Maxwell Miller, on January 3, 1970, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She devoted her time to the “privilege” of raising their four children. Her family has always been her first love, after the Lord. She lived her life with passion and laughter, and loved to have a reason to celebrate. Her annual “cousins party” on Saint Patty’s day was always a highlight, when they would dress in green and visit nursing homes where she would encourage and share her radiant smile. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her love of life and playing farkle, popping popcorn, and having Coke float parties. She lived to make every moment in life a special moment.
Barbara had many hobbies, including sewing and designing/ making clothes, art, gardening, cooking and baking homemade bread to share on Mondays. She loved reading and studying her bible, spending time with friends, bible study groups, and serving others. She was a member of the Red Rose Garden Club and PEO, where she twice served as president. Barbara was a member at Northeast Baptist Church and enjoyed working with the children’s ministry and helping in any way she could with the women’s ministry. She would also make her annual trip to Prayer Mountain in Branson Missouri where she served as a greeter and was loved and known as “that beautiful woman with silver hair”. Anyone, anywhere who had met Barbara could see the love of Jesus in her eyes and her heart to serve and honor Him.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Anna Margaret Helton, her children Bill Miller, Bob Miller, Kelly Miller, and Wendy Trenary. She and Charles have ten grandchildren, Charles and David Miller, Peyton and Hailey Miller, Kelsey Miller and Kyler Crass, and Schuyler, Hunter, Chelsey, and Tristan Trenary. They also have one great grandchild, Elaina Rae|Trenary.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Hugh Mock, and her husband, Charles Miller by five days. She left this world at home, praising her redeemer with joy on her face, surrounded by family.
A joint celebration of life for Barbara and Charles will be held at Northeast Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 17, 2018. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday with the family to be at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Thursday evening. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
