Ice Storm Causing Accidents

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Ice from Oklahoma’s second winter storm in 15 days has snarled traffic so badly that the state Highway Patrol says it will respond only to accidents that involve an injury.

Oklahoma City television stations KOCO and KWTV reported Friday night that police said one person had been killed on old Route 66 on the west side of the metropolitan area in a traffic accident blamed on the ice. Television station KFOR reported a 15-car pileup near a busy intersection just south of downtown Oklahoma City.

The ramp connecting eastbound Interstate 40 and northbound I-35 was closed for 35 minutes Friday night because of the ice.

Police agencies urged people to stay inside until the storm had moved on and the roads had cleared.
