Robert J. “Bob” Shouse of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 91 years.
Robert J. “Bob” Shouse was born on June 17, 1927, in Osage County to John William and Jenny (Zienba) Shouse. He grew up attending rural Osage schools before moving to Blackwell where he attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following his education he entered the United States Army serving during World War II. He married Joyce Jeanette Rancier on November 22, 1947, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled on a farm in Kay County where he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company and Embrey Hatchery in Blackwell. He also worked as a delivery driver for Meadow Gold Dairy. He later worked for the City of Blackwell in the water and waste management department retiring in the early 1980’s. His wife preceded him in death on July 20, 2013, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Blackwell. He was also a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Robert L. Shouse and wife Peggy of Blackwell; a daughter, Rebecca Day and husband Jerry; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jeanette Duke; a sister, Jenny Shouse; and six brothers, Art, Orville, Willard, Burl, Buster and Johnny Shouse.
A prayer service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 5th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 6th in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Ben Lwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his honor with the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
