Oklahoma rape kit task force continues work

The Associated Press and The Oklahoman - August 1, 2018 12:44 pm

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma’s task force that was created to review how agencies handle rape kits has met again to discuss further work.

The Oklahoman reports that the Oklahoma Task Force on Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence met Monday for the first time since submitting its report to lawmakers in June.

The report recommended protocols for how to handle the more than 7,200 untested rape kits, how long law enforcement agencies should keep rape kits and how future kits should be tested.

Gov. Mary Fallin says the state is making progress but more needs to be done.

The task force plans to continue meeting and has formed two subcommittees to further address issues. One will create a plan to accept previously un-submitted rape kits, while the other will create a standardized sexual assault kit.
