Defunct St. Gregory’s auctions off $330K worth of items

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) – An auction of items from the former St. Gregory’s University brought in more than $330,000 that will be used to pay creditors of the bankrupt university.
The Oklahoman reports that bidders online and on-site at Dakil Auctineers Inc. in Shawnee purchased fitness equipment, computers, furniture, musical instruments, and about 70,000 books on Thursday. Some of the books included rare, centuries-old religious texts from the school’s Treasure Room.
Dakil will conduct a three-day auction next week of the university’s oil and gas properties in 11 states. The company is also handling the sale of the real estate.
St. Gregory’s was Oklahoma’s oldest higher education institution and the state’s only Roman Catholic university. The private liberal arts school closed last year amid financial troubles. St. Gregory’s Abbey remains open.
