Dennis Lee Myers of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Monday morning, July 9, 2018, in AllianceHealth – Ponca City at the age of 72 years.
Dennis Lee Myers was born on September 7, 1945, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Howard Raymond and Evelyn Lauretta (Sinner) Myers. He grew up in Blackwell and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1963. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa graduating with an associate degree in 1965. He then transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1967. He married Joyce Ann Seacat on November 17, 1967, in Blackwell. He entered the United States Air Force on June 4, 1968, and was honorably discharged on June 2, 1972. He began his career in education in Rose Hill, Kansas. He continued his career in Burden, Kansas, Braman, Oklahoma, and Deer Creek-Lamont Schools. While at Lamont, he received a master’s degree from Phillips University in Enid. Following his retirement in Oklahoma he returned to Kansas and taught in Cedar Vale until he retired. He served as teacher, coach and school administrator throughout his career and enjoyed farming during this same period. Following retirement they moved to Ponca City to make their home. He was a member of the St. Luke’s Church of the Nazarene in Ponca City. He enjoyed fishing, attending old car shows, taking road trips and reading Louie L’Amour western novels. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and perform in various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Myers of Ponca City; two daughters, Denise Soesbee of Dallas, Georgia, and Melanie Moody and husband Neil of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Benita Dulick and husband Arkell of Lithia Springs, Georgia; a brother, Larry Myers and wife Melody of Ponca City; and four grandchildren, Darian and Garrison Moody of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and Brina and Jake Soesbee of Dallas, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 13th in the St. Luke’s Church of the Nazarene in Ponca City with Rev. David Frees officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.
