The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that 18-year-old Nate Collins of Ponca City was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 6:43 AM on Thursday morning at the intersection of Ranch Drive and Highland Avenue right on the outskirts of Ponca City.

Troopers report that Collins was the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic and the second vehicle is identified as a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado driven by an unnamed 16-year-old of Ponca City. The 16-year-old was not injured.

Collins was reportedly trapped in the wreckage for an unknown amount of time and was extricated by the Ponca City Firefighters using the Hurst Tool. He was pronounced dead of head and trunk injuries by medical professionals at Alliance Health.
Troopers report that what happened, the cause of the accident, and whether or not seatbelts were used is under investigation.
Collins was part of a group of 2022 Ponca City Wildcats who signed letters of intent to play football at Kansas Wesleyan University in February of 2022. Ponca City High School will have counselors available for students and staff next week for support during this hard time. Ponca City Public Schools is sending prayers for Collins’ family and friends.
