Tonkawa Police officer shoots armed man in hand

The Tonkawa Police Department called the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation after one of their officers was involved in a shooting Friday night.
The TPD officer made a traffic stop about 10:30 p.m. of a vehicle driven by Ronald Dean Minix, 70, from Kansas. Authorities in Kansas had notified area law enforcement there was an outstanding warrant for Minix and that he might be armed. The notification said Minix might be in the Tonkawa area and that the warrant was for stalking.
After the TPD officer made the traffic stop near Highway 60 and Interstate 35, according to OSBI, Minix produced a handgun, put it to his head and threatened suicide. The officer then fired his gun and struck Minix in the hand. Minix was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The OSBI investigation has been completed and their report will be presented to the Kay County District Attorney’s Office for consideration. The name of the officer was not released.
