Teachers’ union hosting candidate forum on Thursday

Ponca City Now - June 12, 2018 10:26 am

The Ponca City Association of Classroom Teachers is hosting a Candidate Forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14.

The forum will be held in the Seminar Room at Pioneer Technology Center and will focus on issues related to education in Oklahoma. The public is invited to attend.

Candidates for House District 37 Steve Vaughan and Ken Luttrell, and Senate District 10 candidates Bill Coleman and Gary R. Lanham have agreed to participate. Amber Roberts, who is running for Senate District 10, has not responded to the invitation at this time.

All of the candidates will be given the opportunity to address the audience at the opening and closing of the forum. In between, the candidates will be given a series of question on education issues. If audience members want to submit additional questions before the event, there will be a table set up outside of the Seminar Room for filling out a question card.

Ponca City High School teacher Troy Buller said this election cycle is a critical one for the State of Oklahoma.

“The Teacher Walk Out has shined a light on the problems affecting education in Oklahoma,” Buller said. “The people that are elected will make a difference on how we go forward in solving those problems and other issues affecting the state. The voters of Oklahomans need to study the candidates in order to make an informed choice. This forum is designed to give educators and the public an opportunity to learn the views and knowledge of each of the candidates.”
