Ponca City Now - May 14, 2018 12:25 pm

Ponca City resident Camron Ross, 21, died late Friday after his pickup truck collided with an oil battery southwest of Ponca City.

Ross was driving a pickup truck southbound on State Highway 156 (Ranch Drive) south of Fountain Road. The truck departed  the roadway to the right, crashed into and  through an electric utility pole and then into the oil battery.

A witness who resides nearby saw an explosion at the scene, called 911 and went to the scene to try to offer assistance. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Josh Kelle said the pickup truck went head-first into the heat treater and came to rest on the gas meter. Kelle said pipes ruptured and flammable fluid ignited, consuming the truck. Identification was delayed because all personal effects were destroyed.
